Volunteers Needed for Therapeutic Horseback Riding Lessons at Horses and Horizons

Horses and Horizons Therapeutic Learning Center Inc. is seeking volunteers for its spring session of therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities. A mandatory training session for new volunteers will be held on April 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the center, located near Route 309, about 10 miles south of Tamaqua. The spring session starts May 4 and runs for eight weeks, with lessons on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Volunteers, who must be at least 14 years old, are asked to commit one or two hours per lesson night. Additional training is available for those with horse experience who want to become leaders.

The center welcomes volunteers with or without experience in horses or disabilities and also seeks professionals in allied health fields, as well as help with grounds maintenance, equipment cleaning, and fundraising. The program serves clients with various physical and mental disabilities, offering therapeutic and enjoyable riding lessons. Interested individuals can contact Louise Brong at 610-392-5023 or [email protected], or visit www.horsesandhorizons.org for more information.
