A distressed yearling horse was found having seizures in a muddy field in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, prompting volunteers to spend a traumatic night trying to comfort it. Despite efforts to locate the owner and contact authorities, no immediate help was forthcoming, leading a vet to eventually euthanize the suffering horse. Volunteers also discovered two more dead horses nearby, raising concerns about possible abandonment and neglect. Animal welfare charity My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue highlighted the growing issue of animals being left to suffer without care, emphasizing the emotional toll on those trying to help.
The incident has sparked calls for better support and quicker intervention for animals in distress, with volunteers criticizing the authorities for their slow response. The local council confirmed an ongoing investigation, while police referred the case to the council for enforcement. The volunteers honored the horse, named “Cookie,” by leaving flowers at the site, underscoring the tragic nature of the situation and the need for greater awareness and action against animal cruelty and neglect.
