Volunteering Brings Three Generations Together at USEA American Eventing Championships

Suzy Edwards has been a dedicated volunteer in the eventing community for over a decade, often seen managing the warm-up ring at events like the USEA American Eventing Championships at Galway Downs. Originally focused on barrel racing and reining, Suzy shifted her passion to eventing through her daughter Jenna, who competes at the Novice level and aspires to advance. Volunteering alongside Jenna has strengthened their bond and taught Suzy valuable lessons about patience, support, and the sport itself. Suzy now primarily serves as a ring steward, ensuring a safe and encouraging environment for riders, especially young and nervous competitors.

Volunteering has also connected Suzy with a close-knit community, including her daughter’s grandmother, creating a multi-generational support system. Beyond family, it has fostered lasting friendships and a sense of belonging within the eventing world. The USEA Volunteer Incentive Program recognizes such commitment, offering awards and a platform to celebrate volunteers’ vital contributions to the sport. This program highlights the essential role volunteers like Suzy play in sustaining and enriching the eventing community.
