Vivaldi V, affectionately known as Freddie, was a remarkable dressage horse who transformed from a challenging four-year-old into a national champion, even beating the legendary Valegro in competition. Sent to Jo Barry for schooling in 2006, Freddie quickly proved his exceptional talent despite his initial difficult behavior. Together, they won multiple national titles and regional championships, with Freddie known for his competitive spirit, love of an audience, and strong bond with Jo. Although injury cut his career short, his impact on the dressage world and Jo’s life was profound.
Beyond his competitive success, Freddie left a lasting legacy through his family, with Jo acquiring his dam and several half-siblings, continuing the dynasty in dressage. In retirement, Freddie was a protective and affectionate “uncle” to younger horses, maintaining a close rapport with Jo until his death at age 24 from colic. His passing has been deeply felt in the dressage community, remembered as one of the few horses to best Valegro and a true icon of the sport.
