A viral TikTok video showcasing the Helen McCoy Loop hiking trail in Chino Hills, California, has led to a surge of visitors eager to see the animals at the nearby Red Bucket Rescue and Sanctuary. The sanctuary, home to over 100 rescued horses, donkeys, ponies, and other farm animals, emphasizes a calm and safe environment for the animals, many of whom were saved from abuse. However, the increased foot traffic has disrupted this tranquility, with visitors attempting to feed or scare the animals, which can be dangerous for both the animals and people.
In response, sanctuary president Susan Peirce and local ranchers are urging visitors to respect the animals and their space, while Chino Hills city leaders have shared trail etiquette reminders and installed educational signs near the trail. Efforts are ongoing to protect the sanctuary and promote mindful behavior among hikers to ensure the safety and peace of the rescued animals.
