Two men, Desmon Taylor Moore and Deven Tyler Moore, face charges after a horse they were riding was injured in a crash on Charlotte’s city streets. Videos circulating on social media show horses running loose after riders were thrown off, including one incident where a horse tripped on a curb, ran into traffic, and was struck by a car. Police responded to the scene late Friday night, where the suspects allegedly became disorderly and resisted arrest. Both men are charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, with a hearing scheduled for July 22. The fate of the horse involved remains unclear.
In Charlotte, horses are legally allowed on city streets and are considered vehicles under state law, meaning many traffic rules apply to them. However, reckless or unrestrained riding is prohibited. Notably, North Carolina’s DWI laws do not apply to horses, allowing riders to technically be impaired without legal consequence, though it is discouraged. This legal nuance was highlighted in a recent viral video showing a man drinking beer while sitting on a horse outside a liquor store.
