Via Sistina has been named the Australian Racehorse of the Year for the 2024/25 season, becoming the first Northern hemisphere-foaled winner since Makybe Diva. Trained by Chris Waller, she matched Winx’s record with seven Group 1 wins, including a dominant eight-length victory in the Cox Plate. Via Sistina also earned the title of Australian Middle Distance Horse of the Year, while Waller secured his 13th consecutive Champion Group 1 Trainer award and jockey James McDonald was named Group 1 Jockey of the Year with 15 Group 1 wins.

The awards ceremony in Brisbane also honored other champions such as Marhoona (Champion 2YO), Treasurethe Moment (Champion 3YO Filly), Broadsiding (Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding), and Bella Nipotina (Champion Sprinter). Knight’s Choice was named Champion Stayer, and Duke Of Bedford took Champion Jumper after a notable steeplechase double. Additionally, Peter Moody and Zac Purton were inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, alongside horses Hydrogen and Mahogany, with Zoustar recognized as Champion Sire of the Year.
