Verdades, the celebrated US dressage horse ridden by Laura Graves, has died at age 23. Known affectionately as “Diddy,” Verdades was a sensitive but talented gelding who overcame early challenges, including a broken jaw, to reach the pinnacle of the sport. Purchased as a foal by Laura’s parents, Verdades and Laura made their international grand prix debut in 2014 and quickly rose to prominence under the guidance of trainer Debbie McDonald. Together, they achieved numerous milestones, including double silver medals at the 2018 World Equestrian Games, an Olympic team bronze in Rio 2016, and becoming the first American pair to top the FEI dressage world rankings.
Throughout their career, Laura and Verdades demonstrated remarkable resilience and partnership, with highlights including World Cup victories and strong performances at major international competitions. Their final competition was in 2019, after which Verdades retired. Laura expressed deep gratitude and sorrow at his passing, reflecting on their 23-year journey together and the profound impact he had on her life and career.
