VEA Stud Breeders, based near Bonnievale in the Western Cape, has made significant strategic investments in top-quality Boer goats to build an elite stud since its registration last year. Highlighted by their purchase of the world champion ram Next Level for R2.3 million, and another top ram, Formula One, for over R1 million, VEA focuses on goats with strong genetics, large frames, and excellent meat production traits. Their breeding program aims to enhance profitability, sustainability, and long-term success for farmers by improving growth and reproduction. The Boer goats are well-suited to the farm’s harsh conditions, thriving on minimal rainfall and diverse forage, and their meat commands premium prices in the market.
Beyond breeding, VEA integrates its Boer goat operation into a broader agricultural and tourism business on the 1,683ha Brakkefontein farm. The farm supports sustainable land use with crop planting for feed, diverse game species, and a luxury safari lodge offering eco-tourism experiences. Careful herd management, including selective mating and predator protection, ensures both stud excellence and commercial productivity. Looking ahead, VEA plans to expand by acquiring additional farms to increase their Boer goat herd to 2,500 ewes, reinforcing their commitment to building a world-class stud and profitable farming enterprise.
