The Utah Department of Public Safety released footage of a rescue operation involving a Utah State University employee who was injured while horseback riding during a survey in Summit County. The man, in his 50s, fell when his horse reared on a decline, and the horse subsequently fell on him, breaking multiple ribs.
Emergency crews, including Lifeflight and the Department of Public Safety, responded promptly. Lifeflight stabilized the injured man and airlifted him from the scene. The horse was unharmed and quickly recovered after the fall.
