Fifteen-year-old Marissa Dankwardt underwent surgery at UPMC Children’s Hospital to remove a tumor from her spine, leaving her temporarily paralyzed. Her mother, Christine Dankwardt, was initially worried that Marissa would never be able to walk again.
After undergoing intensive physical therapy at UPMC Children’s Hospital, Marissa was able to regain her strength and mobility. She was determined to return to her passion for horse riding and worked hard to achieve that goal.
