Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Felicitates Indian Equestrian Teams, Promises Quarantine Centre for Horses

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated the Indian eventing and dressage teams for winning five medals, including an individual gold by Ashish Limaye, at the FEI Asian Equestrian Championship in Thailand. Highlighting India’s growing presence in equestrian sports, Mandaviya promised to establish a quarantine centre within a year to facilitate smooth international horse movement. This specialised facility will provide health checks, veterinary care, and training spaces while monitoring horses for diseases before competitions.

Currently, India has an Equine Disease-Free Compartment (EDFC) at the Remount Veterinary Centre in Meerut, recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health. Athletes like Shruti Vora praised the minister’s prompt action to develop a comprehensive equestrian ecosystem, enabling more athletes to compete and qualify domestically before participating internationally. This initiative aims to streamline processes and support the entire equestrian community in India.
