Ukrainian Troops Rescue Camel Used by Russian Forces in Eastern Ukraine

Ukrainian troops recently rescued a seven-foot, one-tonne Bactrian camel that had been used by Russian forces during their invasion of eastern Ukraine. The camel was found wandering aimlessly after Ukrainian forces stormed a Russian position and has since been taken in by Ukraine. This is the second reported instance of camels being used by Russian troops, who have increasingly resorted to using animals like camels, donkeys, and horses to carry supplies and ammunition due to severe logistical challenges and vehicle losses on the frontlines.

The use of animals reflects Russia’s growing desperation in the conflict, with soldiers even being trained to ride horses amid supply shortages. Russian officials have defended these tactics, arguing that risking animals is preferable to losing personnel. Alongside these unusual methods, Russia has deployed bizarre military equipment such as Soviet-era tanks modified with metal sheets and bristles to protect against drone and missile attacks, highlighting the reliance on outdated gear in their faltering invasion efforts. Meanwhile, the war continues with deadly strikes, including a recent drone attack on a petrol station in Ukraine’s Sumy region that killed three people.
