Turfway Park Winter Racing Returns with $250K Synthetic Championships and New Stakes

Winter racing returns to Turfway Park starting December 3, highlighted by the second annual synthetic championships on December 13, featuring four $250,000 stakes: the Holiday Cheer, Holiday Inaugural, My Charmer, and Prairie Bayou. The December schedule also introduces three new $125,000 stakes—the Boone County on December 6, the Florence Stakes on December 20, and the Last Hurrah on December 27—alongside maiden special-weight purses of $100,000 and allowances up to $106,000. Racing will run Wednesday through Saturday nights, with the winter-spring meet beginning January 1.

The jockey roster includes many returning riders such as Gavin Ashton and Corey Lanerie, plus newcomers like Julien Leparoux and Mario Gutierrez. Six-time Turfway leading rider Gerardo Corrales is expected to return after an injury. The backstretch is full with top trainers like Steve Asmussen, Mark Casse, and Brad Cox, alongside local trainers, ensuring a competitive meet at Turfway Park this winter.
