Turf Paradise, a historic horse racing track in Glendale, Arizona, has launched its 70th season under new ownership for the first time in 25 years. California horse owner Gary Hartunian and new general manager Tom Ludt aim to revitalize the track and restore its on-track experience, investing millions to attract live audiences despite challenges posed by off-track betting (OTB), which has reduced in-person attendance. The leadership is also focused on improving horse safety, having recently achieved the lowest fatality rate in the track’s history, well below the national average.
The track offers an affordable, family-friendly environment with free parking, low admission fees, and enhanced food options led by local restaurateur Kyle Hollenbeck. The 70th anniversary season culminates with Turf Paradise’s biggest race day coinciding with the Kentucky Derby on May 2, 2026. The new management hopes to build momentum and enthusiasm for future seasons, emphasizing the unique live experience and community engagement to bring Turf Paradise back to its former glory.
