Students at Trumbull Career and Technical Center recently held their first horse show since completing a $2.2 million renovation of their equestrian facilities, including a new barn opened in 2025. The upgraded barn features 12 heated stalls, an indoor arena, classroom space, and accessible amenities, significantly enhancing the learning environment for the equine studies program. The September show, organized by instructor Lisa Street, included English and western-style classes with over 50 horses competing, some of which were former racehorses. The event also served as a fundraiser to support the program’s materials and equipment needs.
The horse show provided students with hands-on experience in event planning, sponsorship, and management, integral parts of their curriculum. Former students returned to see the improvements and shared how the program influenced their careers and personal growth. Current students expressed enthusiasm about the new facilities and the opportunity to participate in the revived outdoor shows, which had been paused during the construction period. The program continues to foster skills in horsemanship, confidence, and teamwork, benefiting both students and the horses.
