Troops on Irish Draught Horses Perform Musical Drive at Woolwich Barracks

Troops on 48 Irish draught horses performed a display at Woolwich Barracks in London, showcasing a Musical Drive with mounted gun teams performing choreographed manoeuvres with First World War-era guns. Sergeant Paul Renton mentioned that the unit is training in more complex manoeuvres than those they will perform at the VE Day parade.

Captain Iain Ritchie highlighted the importance of the VE Day celebrations, especially given the context of the war in Ukraine, and shared his personal connection to the military through his grandfather’s influence. Lance Bombardier Harry Hoult expressed his pride in participating in the parade as the lead driver of a gun team, while Gunner Sallyanne Burberymayes shared her excitement about her involvement in the historic day, with her father also being passionate about her participation.

The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery will be appearing at the Royal Windsor Horse Show following VE Day, with rehearsals taking place at Woolwich Garrison. The soldiers expressed their pride in representing the senior regiment of the British army and the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by men and women during the war.
