Treo Eile has partnered with Horse Sport Ireland to launch the Thoroughbred Broodmare Scheme, a pilot initiative aimed at providing thoroughbred mares with opportunities beyond racing and breeding by supporting their transition into sport horse breeding. Eligible mares that achieve a “select” classification at a Horse Sport Ireland inspection or hold this status in the Irish Sport Horse Studbook can receive a €500 reimbursement toward their 2026 covering fee upon submission of a 45-day positive pregnancy certificate and proof of covering payment.

The scheme highlights the valuable contribution of thoroughbred mares to Ireland’s sport horse bloodlines and international success, with notable examples of influential mares cited. Industry experts emphasize the importance of thoroughbred genetics in enhancing athleticism, safety, and quality in sport horses across disciplines, viewing this initiative as a positive step to encourage the use of quality thoroughbred mares in breeding programs.
