Southeast Georgia Equine Rescue (SGER) has evolved from a horse rescue mission into a sanctuary for various animals, showcasing the dedication of its team. During the Passion 4 Pets Adoption Event, Founder Heather Gavitt shared touching stories of current residents, including Sweet Pea, a once-neglected dog who has transformed into a loving companion, and Red, a resilient dog who survived a gunshot wound and costly medical treatment.
SGER operates as a unique, cage-free facility housing 60–70 dogs that socialize and play together, preparing them for adoption. The organization is selective in its adoption process to ensure animals find safe, loving homes, emphasizing the importance of responsible placements. They also care for younger rescues, like Shadow, a three-week-old puppy who survived a difficult birth.
Currently, SGER is expanding its facilities in Wayne County and seeks donations to support its mission. They encourage community involvement through adoption, financial contributions, or simply sharing their story to help raise awareness about the animals in need.
