Trainer Miguel Clement reflected on a challenging yet successful year following the passing of his father, Christophe Clement, a legendary New York conditioner. Miguel earned his first Grade 1 victory with Deterministic at Saratoga, a race his father had won three times, marking a significant emotional milestone. The stable thrived with 59 wins, including 19 stakes, and over $7 million in purses, supported by a dedicated family and long-term staff. Miguel emphasized the importance of soundness and longevity in horses, highlighting strong performances from older horses and promising 2-year-olds, and shared insights on developing young talent through experience and maturity.
Looking ahead, Miguel aims to build on this momentum by targeting a Breeders’ Cup win and continuing to improve the stable’s performance. He credits the stable’s success to the unwavering support of his family, longtime clients, and trusted staff, especially Christophe Lorieul, who has been with the stable since 1994. Miguel also shared lessons from his father about the humbling nature of horse racing and the value of a strong work ethic in navigating the sport’s inherent ups and downs.
