Trail Town Project Expands Olive Hill Trails to Boost Tourism and Recreation

Trail Town, a nonprofit founded in 2012 following major flooding, is dedicated to developing a comprehensive trail system in Olive Hill to promote tourism and outdoor recreation. The organization has mapped several trails, including the Red Trail leading to Firebrick Family Recreational Park and the Blue Trail connecting Olive Hill to Carter Caves. These trails are designed for non-motorized use such as walking, biking, horseback riding, and kayaking, with plans to add amenities like shelter houses and restrooms. The project emphasizes environmental protection, adhering to EPA standards to preserve natural resources and prevent pollution.

The trails are built using local clay soil, which offers durability and moldability, making the park potentially one of the finest mountain bike parks east of the Mississippi. Trail Town has received national recognition and funding through grants from the International Mountain Bike Association and the Department of Local Government, totaling $159,000. Progress continues through volunteer efforts, with ongoing construction including bridges for new trails like the upcoming Purple Trail. The organization credits strong community support as essential to the project’s success and invites volunteers to join via their Facebook page.
