Tragic Fire at Unregistered Stable in Southwest Philadelphia Leaves 2 Horses Dead and 12 Rescued

An unregistered stable in Southwest Philadelphia caught fire, resulting in the death of two horses and the rescue of 12 others. Animal crews with ACCT Philly are working to catch a small pig that was spotted in the rubble after the fire. The stable, known as the Scorpion Horse Ranch, was operating illegally on city-owned property.

The owner of the stable, Gordon Parks, claims he started it for kids in the community and believes someone set the fire on purpose. Pennsylvania SPCA officials are investigating whether animal cruelty or neglect charges should be filed. Donations are being accepted by the PSPCA for the rescue and care of the surviving horses.

Cleanup crews are tearing down what remains of the stable, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. The stable was unregistered and operating illegally, prompting questions about the safety and conditions of the animals housed there. Anyone with information about the ownership of the horses or the fire is urged to contact the PSPCA’s Animal Cruelty hotline.
