Top trainer Chris Waller has announced the sudden retirement of Moira, his Caulfield Cup contender, just days before the $5 million race. The seven-year-old mare, who had recent finishes of fourth and tenth in Group 1 races at Caulfield and Flemington, was withdrawn by her owners Yulong ahead of the barrier draw. Waller noted that although Moira is a world-class mare with an impressive international record—including a Breeders’ Cup win at Del Mar last year—she is currently not performing at her best in Australia.
Waller emphasized Moira’s value as an outstanding broodmare, highlighting her potential contribution to the Australian breeding industry. He expressed enthusiasm about the impact of international-class horses like Moira on local bloodlines and looks forward to seeing her progeny race in the future.
