World Equestrian Center in Ocala Celebrates New Beverage License Legislation

The World Equestrian Center in Ocala has received a boost with the signing of legislation (HB 4067) by Gov. Ron DeSantis, allowing the venue to obtain a special beverage license. This enables the center to sell packaged wine and beverages for on-site consumption during events, enhancing the experience for attendees at significant shows like the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup.

The bill creates an exemption in state law, with oversight from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Lobbyist Scott Dick noted initial concerns about the bill potentially allowing the venue to operate like a liquor store, but the final language includes restrictions that permit a pop-up bar instead. This compromise aims to address the unique needs of the equestrian facility while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Rep. Ryan Chamberlin, who filed the legislation, emphasized the importance of supporting Marion County’s status as a global equestrian hub. He highlighted the challenges posed by Florida’s complex licensing laws, stating that the new bill provides a tailored solution to help the World Equestrian Center better serve its patrons.
