Southerly decided to adopt Willow and establish the nonprofit to prevent horses like her from ending up in the slaughter pipeline, ensuring they receive lifelong care.
The sanctuary is dedicated to providing a safe haven for horses that are often deemed broken, old, or sick. Southerly emphasizes that the sanctuary does not adopt out horses, allowing them to live out their lives in a nurturing environment. Willow, who has become a local celebrity, often accompanies Southerly to events, helping raise awareness about the sanctuary’s mission and the broader crisis in the horse community, where many owners can no longer afford care for their animals.
To address the growing need for support, Southerly is actively seeking corporate sponsorships and expanding her outreach through speaking engagements and an Equine Assisted Learning program.
