Horses and Horizons Therapeutic Learning Center Inc. is gearing up for its summer session of therapeutic horseback riding lessons for individuals with disabilities, which begins on July 7 and runs for eight weeks. To ensure the program’s safety and effectiveness, the non-profit organization is seeking volunteers to assist with lessons. While experience with horses or disabilities is beneficial, it is not a requirement. A training session for new volunteers is scheduled for June 21 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Volunteers are needed primarily on Monday and Wednesday evenings, with a commitment of one to two hours per lesson night. Those interested must be at least 14 years old and will initially serve as side aides to help riders during lessons. The center particularly welcomes volunteers with horse experience to lead the horses, as well as professionals from allied health fields to enhance the therapeutic experience.
The center serves clients with various disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism, and developmental delays, providing lessons that are both therapeutic and enjoyable. Volunteers often find the experience rewarding, witnessing significant progress in riders’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. For more information or to volunteer, interested individuals can contact the center directly or visit their website.
