Three 10-year-old boys were arrested in Kirkby Lonsdale on May 23 following reports of criminal damage and burglary, as part of a broader policing initiative ahead of the upcoming Appleby Horse Fair. Police received multiple calls about the boys causing damage at a caravan park and later responded to a burglary at a nearby property. Two boys were arrested for burglary, while the third faced additional charges, including criminal damage and a racially aggravated public order offence.

All three boys have been released on conditional bail as investigations continue. Superintendent Lee Skelton, overseeing the policing for the 2025 Appleby Horse Fair, emphasized the importance of taking action against individuals intent on committing crimes, ensuring that the majority of law-abiding attendees can enjoy the event.

In preparation for the annual fair, which attracts thousands of visitors in early June, police will maintain increased patrols to ensure safety and address any criminal activity effectively.
