An equestrian centre has received planning approval near Buncrana, allowing Hubert and Lorna McLaughlin to establish a horse riding school in Cleenagh. This facility will be distinct from the nearby Crana Stables, as the McLaughlins have no ownership interest in that business. The approved plans include a commercial horse riding school and an indoor sand arena for personal use, specifically for show jumping practice.
Donegal County Council granted the planning permission with seven conditions aimed at ensuring environmental protection and infrastructure integrity. These conditions stipulate that no surface water from the site can discharge onto public roads, and all sewage and slurry must be properly managed to prevent contamination of local waterways. Additionally, the McLaughlins are required to reposition utility lines and maintain existing vegetation on the property.
As part of the approval process, the McLaughlins must also contribute €7,897 to Donegal County Council for public infrastructure improvements. This initiative reflects the council’s commitment to balancing development with environmental stewardship and community needs.
