A charity dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned horses, SAFE (Saving Abandoned Fly-Grazing Equines), attracted attention at Waitrose in Wokingham with their mascots, ponies Luca and Seguro. Volunteers promoted their upcoming Family Fun Day, the charity’s largest fundraising event, which aims to draw in families and raise awareness about their mission. Last year, the event welcomed over 2,000 visitors and featured various activities, including donkey rides, stalls, a bouncy castle, and a popular dog show.
Luca and Seguro exemplify the charity’s impact, having been rescued as malnourished foals in dire health. After receiving necessary medical care and rehabilitation, they now serve as beloved mascots for SAFE, highlighting the organization’s commitment to animal welfare. Cassie, a volunteer, emphasized the reliance on donations and grants to cover essential costs, as the charity operates without paid staff.
The Family Fun Day is scheduled for July 26 at Cantley Park, Wokingham, with gates opening at 11 am. Entry is £2 for adults, while those under 18 can attend for free. The event promises a fun-filled day for attendees while supporting the care of rescued horses and ponies. For more information or to get involved, interested parties can visit the SAFE website or contact the organization directly.
