In Bihar’s West Champaran district, a horse has been detained by the Nautan police after it was found transporting approximately 50 liters of smuggled liquor on May 27. The horse was being used by a local smuggler, Akash Yadav, who remains at large. As the search for Yadav continues, the police have taken on the responsibility of caring for the horse, which includes feeding it green grass, chickpeas, and jaggery.
Rajesh Kumar, the Station House Officer, noted that the horse is currently housed at the police station, and they are appealing to higher authorities for assistance in finding a suitable caretaker. The individual who takes custody of the horse will need to sign an affidavit ensuring its proper care and must be prepared to present the animal in court as needed during the legal proceedings.
Once the case concludes, the state government plans to auction the horse, with the caretaker given the first opportunity to purchase it. If they decline, the horse will be made available for public sale. This situation underscores the unique challenges law enforcement faces under Bihar’s strict prohibition laws.
