“This program is about more than just horses,” says Brieanna Hughes, NYS 4-H Equine Youth Specialist. “It’s about giving young people the confidence, skills, and connections they need to pursue their dreams—whether that’s in agriculture, animal science, or any field that sparks their passion.”
ITHACA, N.Y. — The New York State 4-H Horse Program is thrilled to announce the launch of the Equine Ambassadors Program, a yearlong leadership experience for high school juniors and seniors across New York State.
Designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of equine industry leaders, this free program offers youth a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, build professional networks, and engage in hands-on learning experiences alongside industry professionals.
Applications are now open, and all interested youth are encouraged to apply—no prior 4-H membership is required.

Program Highlights:
- 3-4 overnight leadership events across New York State
- Participation at the NYS Fair (3 days/2 nights) in the 4-H for Horses Building
- Resume building, public speaking, and career readiness training
- Mentorship from equine professionals and industry leaders
- A supportive community of youth who share a love of horses and leadership
Selected participants will graduate as official NYS 4-H Equine Ambassadors, ready to represent the equine industry and lead in their schools, communities, and beyond.

Interested youth should email Brieanna Hughes to request the application form. Applications are due by June 13, 2025, and must include:
- Completed application form
- Cover letter
- Letter of recommendation
