On April 29, 2025, the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) and the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office (DOPPO) launched the region’s first “Cavaliers” Horseback Riding Patrol at Menzi Beach Park, Dahican. This initiative aims to enhance police presence and operational capacity in remote and mountainous areas, utilizing horses to improve visibility, deter crime, and strengthen community ties while also supporting tourism and environmental conservation.
The launch followed an intensive 10-day, 80-hour training program for 31 police personnel from various Davao provinces, focusing on horsemanship skills such as riding, obstacle navigation, and teamwork. The officers demonstrated their skills during a closing ceremony, showcasing their dedication and the discipline developed through the training.
Governor Niño Uy praised the initiative for fostering cooperation among local governments, law enforcement, and communities, emphasizing the importance of security monitoring in Davao Oriental. The “Cavaliers” Horseback Riding Patrol reflects the Philippine National Police’s commitment to community-based policing and rural outreach, with hopes of inspiring similar programs in other provinces.
