The Police Regional Office XI has established the “Cavaliers” Mounted Patrol Unit in Davao Oriental, comprising officers from various regions including Davao del Norte and Davao City. This initiative follows a 10-day training program focused on essential riding skills, advanced maneuvers, and specialized patrol techniques, culminating in an official launch on April 29, 2025, at Menzi Beach Park in Mati City.
The primary objectives of the mounted patrol are to enhance rural security, foster community relations, and support tourism in remote areas. PMaj Catherin Dela Rey emphasized that the selected officers, primarily stationed in hard-to-reach police outposts, will significantly improve response times in regions where traditional vehicles cannot access.
The horseback patrol is expected to increase police visibility, deter crime, and build public trust in law enforcement. Additionally, the training will be instrumental during the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, facilitating the delivery of election materials to precincts in inaccessible mountainous areas.
