Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has officially become the third busiest airport in the world, serving nearly 90 million passengers last year. This significant growth, a 9% increase from 2023, positions DFW behind only Atlanta and Dubai in terms of traveler volume. Its strategic location between Dallas and Fort Worth contributes to its high traffic, especially as Fort Worth has recently surpassed Austin to become the fourth largest city in Texas.
Covering over 17,000 acres, DFW is larger than Manhattan and serves as the main hub for American Airlines, offering more than 900 daily departures to over 250 destinations, including 60 international cities. The airport’s extensive infrastructure and connectivity make it a vital transportation hub for the North Texas region.
Looking ahead, DFW is poised for further expansion with a $4 billion improvement plan that aims to enhance its facilities, road access, and environmental sustainability. This ambitious initiative signals DFW’s intent to continue growing and potentially challenge the top spots held by Atlanta and Dubai in the future.
