The inaugural Copa Del Azucar, a CDI 1* and CDN event, took place from May 22-25, 2025, at the Club Campestre de Cali in Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Named after the region’s primary product, sugar, the event was not just a dressage competition but a comprehensive experience aimed at elevating the sport in Colombia. The organizing committee created an impressive atmosphere with a well-designed venue, featuring vendors, a VIP area, and shaded spots for judges and photographers, ensuring a comfortable experience despite the warm weather.
The show commenced with a jog for the horses, where Flora, a Colombian-bred mare, was awarded for best presentation. Notable activities included a talk by judge César Torrente on horse welfare and judging criteria, which attracted significant attendance. The competition officially began with a ceremony, showcasing the growth of Colombian dressage as riders competed in various classes, including the Medium Tour and Grand Prix, with standout performances from horses like Hi5 Azul and Hechicero.
In addition to the dressage events, the Copa Del Azucar featured a Grooms Competition, highlighting the essential role of grooms in equestrian sports. The event also included social activities, such as a lively party with local cuisine and entertainment, making it a well-rounded celebration of equestrian culture.
