The Murray Bain Service to Industry Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional service through hands-on involvement in the thoroughbred industry. This year, the award honors Mia Collins, a dedicated teacher, mentor, and breeder who has significantly contributed to the industry over her 30-year career. From her beginnings in the Riverina, where she nurtured her equine passion, to her diverse experiences in the Navy and education, Mia has consistently championed equine studies, establishing innovative programs and courses that have shaped countless students.
Mia’s journey includes notable achievements such as earning a Diploma in Agriculture and creating the Equine Nursing Certificate, one of the first of its kind globally. Her teaching career began at Kurri Kurri TAFE, where she built a program from scratch, eventually moving to Scone TAFE, where she has imparted extensive knowledge in various aspects of horse care and management. Her commitment to education and hands-on practice has left a lasting impact on the equine community.
The HTBA President’s Award for Lifetime Achievement was awarded to Paddy Power, a respected leader in the thoroughbred industry. Originally from Ireland, Paddy has built a successful career at Coolmore and has been an influential advocate for the Hunter Valley breeding community. His efforts to protect the industry from environmental threats, along with his strategic leadership roles in various associations, highlight his dedication and impact, making him a valued figure in the field.
