Title: "Cavalia Files for Bankruptcy: A Sad End to a Beloved Equestrian Spectacle"

Montreal-based Cavalia, known for its acclaimed equestrian and multimedia shows like “Cavalia” and “Odysséo,” has filed for bankruptcy, citing debts exceeding $28 million. The company’s productions, characterized by their grand performances under large white tents, combined equestrian ballet, acrobatics, and multimedia elements, celebrating the bond between humans and horses. This unique approach garnered global admiration, making Cavalia a beloved entertainment entity.

The bankruptcy stems from significant debts owed to various creditors, including Caisse Desjardins du Plateau-Mont-Royal and Investissement Québec. Meetings with creditors are scheduled to discuss the insolvency’s causes. A recent venture, the “Illumi” light and sound show, which ended operations in January 2024, has been identified as a contributing factor to the financial difficulties.

Cavalia’s founder, Normand Latourelle, expressed sorrow over the company’s fate, attributing it to unmet expectations and a reliance on costly loans, with minimal public funding. The bankruptcy marks a poignant conclusion for a company that has enchanted audiences with its innovative blend of equestrian artistry and theatrical performance.
