The annual gathering of Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities in the UK will commence on June 5, with the main events occurring over the weekend. This significant event not only serves as a marketplace for buying and selling horses but also as a festive holiday for many attendees.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Best at Appleby Awards, organized by Redwings Horse Sanctuary in collaboration with various animal welfare charities. Head judge Nicola Berryman noted the evolving nature of the awards, which aim to foster relationships within the community and recognize excellence in horse health and horsemanship.
In response to concerns from last year regarding the overworking of horses, the RSPCA will implement additional evening patrols to ensure animal welfare. Chief inspector Rob Melloy emphasized the importance of addressing this issue, highlighting the organization’s commitment to monitoring horse treatment during the Fair.
