Title: Alan Varey Honored with Queen Mother’s Silver Salver at TBA National Hunt Breeders’ Awards

Alan Varey of Batsford Stud received the prestigious Queen Mother’s Silver Salver at the TBA’s 11th annual National Hunt Breeders’ Awards, recognizing his significant contributions to the racing and breeding industry. The ceremony, held in Doncaster, celebrated Varey’s long career, during which he has overseen the success of various stallions and their offspring at his picturesque Cotswolds stud.

In his acceptance speech, Varey expressed gratitude for the support of his family, particularly his son Tim, who plays a crucial role in the business after gaining experience elsewhere. Varey’s journey began at a young age, working with trainers and eventually establishing his own livery yard before moving to Batsford in 2001, where he has continued to build a legacy in horse breeding.

The awards ceremony also honored various breeders and horses in multiple categories, including the Overbury Stud Trophy for Leading Novice Hurdler and the Dudgeon Cup for NH Broodmare of the Year. Notable winners included The New Lion and Raitera, showcasing the talent and dedication within the National Hunt breeding community.
