An animal rights activist has called on district police to take action against individuals responsible for harming a horse during a recent village festival in Namagiripettai. In a complaint to Superintendent of Police M. Vignesh, he highlighted a viral Instagram video showing a horse being forced to walk over burning embers, which caused visible distress and pain to the animal. This incident has ignited public outrage and concern among animal welfare advocates.
The activist emphasized that the actions depicted in the video constitute a violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Despite the gravity of the situation and the submission of digital evidence, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed to date.
Vignesh urged the police to take swift action to identify and prosecute those responsible, as well as to seize the horse to prevent any further harm. The incident has raised significant awareness about animal rights and the need for enforcement of existing laws.
