A group of youth from the 4H Bits and Bridles club is gearing up for a horseback riding competition this weekend, highlighting the life skills and confidence they gain through their involvement. Young rider Faith Hughes, who has been with the club for a year, expresses her lifelong passion for horses and emphasizes the comprehensive learning experience, which includes horse care, bonding, and riding techniques.
Trainer Nicole Windolf notes that the impact of 4H extends beyond competition, as she has witnessed children grow in confidence and skill while working with horses. Having grown up in 4H herself, she finds fulfillment in helping young riders achieve their dreams, including the opportunity to own their first horses.
The club’s activities not only prepare the riders for the Area North competition, a qualifier for state championships, but also foster lasting relationships with the animals. Faith encapsulates the experience by stating, “You build a bond with an animal that can’t speak your language,” showcasing the profound connection formed through horseback riding.
