A group of youth from the 4H Bits and Bridles club is preparing for a horseback riding competition this weekend, showcasing not only their riding skills but also the life lessons they’ve learned through the program. Participants like Faith Hughes, who has been with the club for a year, express a deep passion for horses and highlight the importance of caring for them, which includes grooming, feeding, and bonding.
Trainer Nicole Windolf emphasizes the transformative impact of 4H, noting how it helps children build confidence and achieve remarkable accomplishments with their horses. Many riders, including those who initially lacked self-assurance, have grown significantly through their experiences in the program. Windolf, a former 4H member herself, finds fulfillment in guiding these young riders toward their goals, including the possibility of horse ownership.
The upcoming Area North competition serves as a qualifying event for state championships, further motivating the riders. The 4H program not only equips them with practical skills but also fosters lasting relationships with their horses, as expressed by Faith: “You build a bond with an animal that can’t speak your language.” Supporters can follow their journey through the Willows Way Stables Facebook page.
