Title: "2025 Preakness Stakes Preview: Key Horses, Betting Insights, and Expert Predictions"

The 2025 Preakness Stakes is set for Saturday at 7:01 p.m. ET from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. The 2025 Preakness Stakes purse is $2 million, matching last year’s total as the highest in race history. There will be no Triple Crown winner this year after Sovereignty’s connections decided not to enter him following his win at the Kentucky Derby. The 2025 Preakness Stakes field has nine horses scheduled to run, headlined by Kentucky Derby horses Journalism and Sandman. Both were among the pre-Derby favorites, and they have the lowest 2025 Preakness Stakes odds with Journalism at 8-5 and Sandman at 4-1. A pair of lightly-raced horses, Clever Again (5-1) and Goal Oriented (6-1), are next on the 2025 Preakness odds board. With the Preakness Stakes annually featuring many of the fastest horses in North American racing, you’ll want to see what Santa Anita-based racing reporter and analyst Michelle Yu has to say before making any 2025 Preakness Stakes picks, considering the success she’s had handicapping this race.

Yu is coming off a strong 2025 Kentucky Derby where she hit the exacta. She started off 2025 by correctly going all-in on Citizen Bull to win the Robert B. Lewis Stakes, and she also predicted Forever Young’s win in the $20 million Saudi Cup, Journalism’s win in the San Felipe Stakes, Sandman’s win in the Arkansas Derby, and Mindframe’s win in the Churchill Downs Stakes this year. Anyone who has followed her on those picks on betting sites like FanDuel Racing and TwinSpires is up huge.

Now, with the 2025 Preakness Stakes post positions set and odds on the board, Yu is sharing her 2025 Preakness Stakes betting picks and 2025 Preakness Stakes predictions over at SportsLine to help fans figure out where to bet the Preakness Stakes. You can head to SportsLine now to see them.

Top 2025 Preakness Stakes predictions

One surprise: Journalism is not Yu’s top choice to win, even though he is the 8-5 favorite in the Preakness Stakes 2025 odds. Betting on the favorite hasn’t been a profitable strategy at the Preakness. In fact, favorites have won less than half of the time historically, and only six favorites have won in the past 20 years. Last year saw another sleeper, Seize the Grey, win at 9-1.

While Journalism has the strongest resume in the Preakness Stakes field, Yu is not comfortable betting him due to a lack of value. He went off at 8-5 on the morning line, and she is expecting his odds to drop even further as Saturday approaches. "He does not provide any value," Yu told SportsLine when discussing her 2025 Preakness Stakes betting strategy. See which other 2025 Preakness Stakes horses to avoid at SportsLine.

How to make 2025 Preakness Stakes picks

Yu, however, is high on a longshot who "is heavy on the gas." She is including this horse in her 2025 Preakness Stakes bets, and so should you. She’s sharing which 2025 Preakness Stakes horses to back at SportsLine.

So who wins the 2025 Preakness Stakes, what double-digit longshot is a must-back, and how has Yu constructed her wagers? Visit SportsLine to see Yu’s picks for the Preakness Stakes, all from the Santa Anita-based racing insider who just nailed the Kentucky Derby exacta, and find out.

2025 Preakness Stakes odds, post positions

The 2025 Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday at 7:01 p.m. ET at Pimlico Race Course, featuring a purse of $2 million, matching last year’s record. Notably, there will be no Triple Crown contender this year as Sovereignty’s connections opted out after his Kentucky Derby win. The race will include nine horses, with Kentucky Derby favorites Journalism and Sandman leading the odds at 8-5 and 4-1, respectively.

Racing analyst Michelle Yu, known for her successful predictions, is offering insights and betting picks for the Preakness Stakes. Despite Journalism being the favorite, Yu advises against betting on him due to a lack of value, as historical trends show that favorites have not consistently performed well in this race. Instead, she emphasizes the potential of a longshot horse that she believes has strong prospects.

For those looking to place bets, Yu’s analysis and predictions are available on SportsLine, where she shares her strategies and insights on which horses to back or avoid. Her recent successes, including accurate calls during the Kentucky Derby, add credibility to her recommendations for the upcoming Preakness Stakes.

Title: Heartbreak in the Racing Community: Tragic Death of Stablehand Fiona Ralph

The racing world is heartbroken after the tragic death of a much-loved stablehand.

58-year-old Fiona Ralph worked at Bendigo Racecourse and last week was involved in a freak accident in the tie-up stalls which ultimately caused her death.

It is believed Ralph fell and in the process suffered a serious head injury.

She was treated by the on-course medical team and then airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

However, on Monday afternoon Racing Victoria and the Bendigo Jockey Club (BJC) issued a joint statement, saying Ralph’s condition deteriorated and she was “unable to be saved.”

Ralph was first registered as a stablehand in 2016 but took time out before renewing her registration in January 2024. She then teamed up with Bendigo trainer Toby Lake.

“We are shocked and saddened at the news of Fiona’s passing after what appears to be a tragic accident on raceday at Bendigo,” RV chief Aaron Morrison said.

“On behalf of all within the Victorian racing industry, I would like to extend our prayers and heartfelt condolences to Fiona’s family and friends at this incredibly tough time.

“Our thoughts are also with trainer Toby Lake and his staff, along with the team at the Bendigo Jockey Club who are equally shocked at Fiona’s passing.

“Fiona had an incredible love of animals, whether they flew, swam or ran. She grew up alongside horses and she got to combine her passion for animals with her work at the Lake stables.

“In this tough time, her family have taken comfort knowing that she got to spend her last day watching two of her favourite racehorses at the track.

“The racing community is a big family who share a common love of the horse and I know that this sad news will be felt by all, regardless of whether they knew Fiona.

“In particular, we’re thinking of all of the stable staff across the state who are providing care for the horses every day, just as Fiona did, and are the unsung heroes of our sport.

“Together with others in the industry, we are providing all the support we can to Fiona’s family and the Bendigo racing community to assist them in dealing with this tragic outcome.”

Bendigo Jockey Club chief Paul Scullie said the local racing community had been “devastated” by the loss of a “beloved friend and colleague.”

“Her passing in such tragic circumstances is a shock to us all and one that will take time to overcome.”

The Newcastle racing community is also dealing with the shattering news that trainer Ben Smith has died.

Smith was 42 and had been a controversial figure in the industry after he was hit with a ban (of almost four years) for doping in 2019.

Smith was found guilty of cobalt offences and conduct charges by Racing NSW stewards.

Smith returned to training in late 2022 but again struck trouble with stewards and was hit with a 13-month ban in May last year, when he was found guilty of two separate offences relating to banned substances.

As a result, one of his horses (Arale) was stripped of victory when it was found to have meloxicam in her system.

Smith’s second ban was about to end.

Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances about his death, but are investigating the cause.
