Tipperary Racecourse Begins Construction of New All-Weather Track to Boost Irish Racing

A significant redevelopment project at Tipperary Racecourse has officially begun with the sod-turning ceremony for a new state-of-the-art All-Weather Track, led by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon. Scheduled for completion by September 2027, the track aims to enable a full winter racing program in the 2027/28 season, enhancing year-round racing opportunities in southern Ireland. The project involves key contractors including Atlantic Golf Construction, Martin Collins Enterprises Ltd, and McSherry Electrical Limited, and is expected to have a transformative impact on the local and regional racing industry.

The development is seen as a major economic boost, supporting jobs and local businesses while strengthening Tipperary’s €329 million horse racing and breeding sector, which contributes significantly to Ireland’s national industry. Stakeholders from Horse Racing Ireland and local authorities emphasize the project’s alignment with broader strategic goals to expand racing infrastructure and accessibility across the south of the country. This new facility will complement Dundalk, currently Ireland’s only All-Weather Racing track, marking an important milestone for the racing community in Munster and beyond.
