The American Kennel Club (AKC) has officially recognized three new dog breeds in the U.S., expanding its roster to 205 breeds. The newly added breeds are the Basset Fauve de Bretagne, a hardy and sociable hound from France known for its hunting ability and mental agility; the Teddy Roosevelt Terrier, a small, energetic breed named after the U.S. president, valued for its rodent control and obedience; and the Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka, a playful and clever lapdog developed in Soviet-era Leningrad, popular for its companionship and low-shedding coat.

Recognition by the AKC allows these breeds to participate in U.S. dog shows and increases their visibility among dog enthusiasts. Each breed has distinct traits: the Basset Fauve de Bretagne requires active engagement, the Teddy Roosevelt Terrier combines terrier independence with a strong desire to please, and the Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka demands playful interaction and regular grooming. These additions highlight the diversity of dog breeds cherished by American pet owners.
