A three-alarm fire broke out on the third floor of the Berkshires at Town Center Apartments in Towson, Baltimore County, resulting in multiple rescues and at least nine hospitalizations. The fire started in a recycling area, and firefighters, assisted by neighboring and volunteer departments, extinguished the blaze and worked to clear smoke, which posed an additional hazard. The incident is part of a troubling trend in Baltimore County, which has experienced several deadly fires in early 2026, including the deaths of two young children and other fatalities, highlighting ongoing fire safety challenges in the area.
In addition to this recent fire, Baltimore County has seen other significant incidents this month, such as a man rescuing children from a second-floor window during a Middle River fire and a fire at Center Place Senior Apartments in Dundalk that displaced 20 residents and caused extensive water damage. The county has reported a total of four fire-related deaths in 2025, with 13 deaths in 2023 and nine in 2024, underscoring the persistent risk and impact of residential fires in the community.
