Thoroughbred Industry Pledges $35,000 for TAKE2 Hunter and Jumper Classics at Kentucky Horse Shows in 2026

A group of 17 Thoroughbred industry stakeholders, encouraged by Sergio de Sousa of Hidden Brook Farm and Carrie Brogden of Machmer Hall, have pledged $35,000 in prize money for 20 TAKE2 Thoroughbred Hunter and Jumper Classics to be held at 10 horse shows at the Kentucky Horse Park in 2026. Each event will offer $1,750 in prize money, supporting the TAKE2 Second Career Thoroughbred Program, which promotes aftercare and retraining by providing competitive opportunities for Thoroughbreds transitioning to new careers.

The TAKE2 program, which includes over 500 shows nationwide and a $20,000 year-end Hunter & Jumper Finals, aims to sustain demand for Thoroughbreds beyond racing. De Sousa highlights the program’s role in continuing horse and rider development, while Brogden envisions a revival of the breed’s popularity. TAKE2 Executive Director Andy Belfiore praised the industry’s commitment to aftercare and second careers, emphasizing the importance of such sponsorships in supporting these efforts.
