There Goes Harvard Returns to Form with Gate-to-Wire Victory in San Marcos Stakes

There Goes Harvard won the Grade 3 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita with jockey Frankie Dettori in the irons, leading from start to finish. The horse had not won since the 2022 Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes and was coming off a disappointing performance at the Breeders’ Cup Turf. The victory was a gate-to-wire win for There Goes Harvard, who was able to set comfortable fractions throughout the race.

Trained by Michael McCarthy, There Goes Harvard was able to secure a 3 1/4-length win in the San Marcos Stakes, with Easter finishing second and Lord Bullingdon coming in third. The horse was purchased privately by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber last year and has now improved to a record of 21: 5-6-2 with $764,560 in earnings. The win was a testament to McCarthy’s horsemanship and the decision to take a chance and go forward with the horse.

There Goes Harvard paid $11.20 for the win, with Easter and Lord Bullingdon also finishing in the money. The victory marked a return to form for the horse after a disappointing performance at the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber, There Goes Harvard showed that there was still plenty of potential left in him despite his age.
