We Can Ride, Minnesota’s oldest and largest therapeutic riding program, offers horseback riding opportunities for people with disabilities at a farm in Maple Plain. The program provides significant physical and emotional benefits, as illustrated by 7-year-old Daisy Spike, who uses breathing techniques learned during rides to manage her seizures. Occupational therapist Natalie Cerchio highlights how riding helps improve coordination, motor skills, and brain function, which are essential for daily activities like handwriting.
Operating for 43 years, We Can Ride relies heavily on donations and volunteers since client fees cover only a third of its costs. The organization also hosts community events, such as an upcoming 5K at Lake Rebecca Park, to raise support and awareness for its mission of empowering individuals with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding.
