The Tragic Discovery of Three Shot Dogs in North Westmeath

The bodies of three dogs were found dumped in a hole at a bog near Coole in North Westmeath, with each dog having been shot in the head. Animal welfare managers from My Lovely Horse Rescue confirmed that the dogs were deliberately put down, as the shots were accurate and not likely due to sheep worrying. The dogs did not have chips for identification, and it is believed they were young.

My Lovely Horse Rescue offered to take the bodies of the dogs to ensure they were not left in the bog, but another rescue organization took on the responsibility. The dogs were identified as a lurcher and two terrier mixes, and it was estimated that they had been shot two or three days prior to being found. This incident is the first time that animals have been found shot and dumped in the bog.

Despite being full, My Lovely Horse Rescue continues to care for numerous animals, including 80 dogs, 200 pigs, and 70 goats. The co-founder of the charity expressed sadness over the cruel act of shooting and dumping the dogs, emphasizing that there are resources available for people who need to surrender animals rather than resorting to such inhumane actions.
